THE HILLS ARE ALIVE AGAIN!

This year, Patio Playhouse has gone all out to present the
beloved classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical,
THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC made its Broadway debut in 1959, winning seven Tony Awards including Best Musical. It ran for 1443 performances and later made Hollywood history by becoming the most popular movie musical ever made. The film won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, when it was released in 1965, and made an international star out of Julie Andrews.

The final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein,
THE SOUND OF MUSIC has become the world's most beloved musical by capturing the enduring love and unshakable faith that brought high-spirited postulant-turned-governess Maria Rainer, Captain von Trapp, and his seven musically gifted children together to survive and escape the Nazi occupation of Austria. Songs like "My Favorite Things," "Do, Re, Mi,"
"Sixteen, Going on Seventeen," "Climb Every Mountain," "Edelweiss," and the jubilantly soaring title number express all the beauty, romance, joy and drama of this remarkable family's journey.

Most recently seen at Kit Carson Park as Jesus, in last summer's GODSPELL, Robert Alegria portrays Captain Von Trapp with all of his conflicts and lovable bluster. Inland Theatre League Ensemble Award winner, Tammie Pontsler is Maria, who becomes the unlikely love interest of the millionaire Captain and the only woman who can capture his heart.

The Patio Playhouse cast also features Shelley Yeager as Elsa Schraeder;
Bob Himlin as Max Detweiller; Cathy Himlin as the Mother Abbess;
Helen Brehm and Michaela Summers as Liesl;
and Jerry Alexander III as Rolf.

The Von Trapp children are
David Laine and Michael Laine as Friedrich; Ellie Barrett and
Bridget Stephenson as Louisa; John Paul Evert and Hayden Kerzie as Kurt; Madison Wright and Madison Wickham as Brigitta; Abby DeSpain and Gabrielle Reynoso as Marta; and Joy Laine and Cayla Guili Gretl.
Supporting players include Heidi Bauer (Frau Schmidt), Mary Jo Woods (Sister Berte), Cassiopeia Guthrie (Sister Margaretta), Amy Juli Clevea (Sister Sophia), David Guthrie (Franz), Charlie Alegria (Herr Zeller), and
Carl Lloyd Wickham III (Admiral Von Schreiber). An additional 10 singers
and dancers fill out the ensemble supported by a full, live pit orchestra.

Award winning performers and directors, Mary Bright and Richard Brousil
Co-Direct, and award-winning Choreographer Evelyn Lamden stages. Award winners Mary Bright and Laura Williams serve as Music Director and Conductor, respectively.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC runs August 5-27 on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. Tickets are $16-$19; $10 for youths up to 16. Group discounts of 10 or more are also offered. Tickets are available online at http://www.patioplayhouse.org, or by calling 760-746-6669, or in person at the
Box Office at the Kit Carson Park Amphitheatre, 3333 Bear Valley Parkway,
Escondido, 92025. Box Office opens 1 hour prior to curtain.

Be sure to spread the joy and bring along a youngster,
or one who is young at heart! Hope to see you there!
